This Halloween you’ll probably be seeking a modest yet flattering costume for yourself if you plan to be helping your child trick-or-treat. Or even (especially!) if your plans are simply handing out candy to trick-or-treaters who come to your door.
Rest assured, ideas are at hand here. I too have had to grapple with the issue of finding something modest enough that it won’t alarm the neighbors (i.e. I’ve crossed “sexy maid” off my costume list) but I still want something that is flattering (unlike, say, being dressed as a slice of toast).
There are plenty of Halloween stores out there; feel free to shop around. My personal favorite is Trendy Halloween because of their excellent range of costumes, clear descriptions of what’s included and what isn’t, range of budgets and their up-front, uncomplicated shipping policy. Since I’ve browsed there for modest costumes this fall already, I’ll illustrate using examples from Trendy Halloween, but again, feel free to look at other stores too.
Or use one of these ideas as a starting point for crafting your own costume.
The ideas below went all the way from $22 to $86 at the time of writing (prices change day to day so I didn’t put in the price). Most of the costumes below were in the $30 – $50 range. The pics are clickable and will take you to the product description in Trendy Halloween if you’re interested in sizing, pricing, etc.
I noticed that some of these above could also work well as part of couple’s costumes if you enjoy doing a theme.
Whether you decide to make your own costume or purchase a ready-made one, I hope that this has given you some helpful ideas.
