Are you looking for a formal outfit for your baby? Perhaps you are starting to think about baby photos for your own newborn in a few months time. Or maybe you are a relative like my husband's wonderful grandmother, looking to give a formal outfit as a gift. Either way it can seem overwhelming to know where to start because the standard everyday children's clothing stores don't tend to stock formal outfits that you might be seeking for baby photos. But don't worry! I have you covered.
As an added bonus, a formal baby photo outfit does double duty for occasions such as Easter or birthdays, even if you're not having professional photographs done at any of those occasions.
Here are the best places for baby outfits for pictures. You can't get these anywhere else!
Janie and Jack
Janie and Jack has traditionally styled baby clothes with beautiful detailing, perfect for photos. Their look is preppy with a modern twist. Sizes start at 0-3 months. You can see their newborn and baby styles here.
Pleats and Stitches
Pleats and Stitches is a brand of traditional children's clothing featuring beautiful details such as hand-smocking, embroidery, and more. It's a family-owned brand in South Carolina; they sell on Etsy.com which I love because it lets you see people's reviews. The clothing from Pleats and Stitches is affordably priced, which is wonderful considering the high quality and gorgeous details.
Their clothing is perfect for baby photos! This is where to go for traditional classic items such as shortalls for boys and heirloom dresses for girls.
If you're looking for an additional option for a classic children's outfit with smocking and embroidery, then it's worth looking at Little English. They have lots of beautiful traditionally styled clothes which are perfect for a formal baby photo outfit. Baby sizes start at 3 months for most items, and 12 months for other items.
Gymboree has beautiful preppy kids clothes which range from playful everyday wear to formal photo outfits. In particular, they do seasonal wear extremely nicely. No matter what season it is, you can expect to find gorgeous themed collections for that season.
Be aware that unlike the previous two options, Gymboree's sizing starts at 12 months and up, so this would not work out if you're looking specifically for young baby photo outfits. But for the toddler years and up, Gymboree is an excellent choice. You can find their girls clothes here and boys clothes here.
The bottom line
You definitely have great options when it comes to baby photo outfits. They're not always the same places as you'd buy everyday children's clothes though. I recommend Janie and Jack, Pleats and Stitches, Gymboree and Little English.
